Eritrea…

Dry winds envelop you, sunshine never leaves you, and sweet rain fills you

The Red Sea, your favorite companion, forever lies down next to you

Eritrea……

The world doesn’t even know you exist

They don’t know your name

They don’t know about your struggles

They don’t know you

But I know your courage

I know about your people, your brave soldiers

Marching forward with tattered boots

Dark eyes glazed with passion

Sick and tired of suffering

No more suffocation by Greed, Power, and War

No more intellects ‘silenced’ by envious hands

No more raping and destroying the vulnerable and precious

No more children with hearts intentionally broken

Enough of pain

Enough of slavery

For this was their land and they would ‘fight’ for it

No more suffering…

Heavy loaded guns were held in soldiers’ scarred hands,

Ready to shoot if the scent of evil was present

Sun rays torturing and burning their skins,

Sweat underneath thin camouflage

Their hearts becoming solid rocks and making the pain heavier

I know about these brave soldiers

for they are

 My people

for they are

 My people

Wetehaders…Commandos…courageous Eritrean soldiers and people….

Families cried out prayer after prayer

But only the sounds of gunshots, explosions, screams, and death were heard   `

Bullets polluted the air and mountains of corpses were everywhere

They were there for only one purpose

Eritrea…

Thirty long hard years it took to win independence

And the horrific battle was over! “Awetna te rekeebna”

victory gained

Celebrated their hearts out for Natsenet, for Freedom!

They were finally free…

Eritrea….

Your name,

You’re history

 You

May not be known by many

But you are always known to me
